Rancho Acebuchal
Our first aquaponics research and demonstration facility

Learning at a larger scale
From 2018 to 2024, Rancho Acebuchal, a horse ranch in Mijas Costa, was home to our first pilot aquaponic research facility. Moving beyond a small terrace system gave us the opportunity to explore aquaponics at a larger scale and develop practical experience in a working installation.
We adapted a 60 m² greenhouse to bring fish tanks, growing beds and water circulation together. From sourcing materials and assembling the components to introducing plants, checking water quality and following crop development, the project became a place to learn through observation, testing and everyday care.
The facility also helped us promote aquaponics: visitors could see the system in operation and discover how fish, plants and beneficial bacteria work together. The experience gained at Rancho Acebuchal helped shape the designs, demonstrations and educational projects that followed.
